Rock Edicts..!
The document Rock Edicts was very surprising to read because you see the difference in the way society has grown from the paleolithic to modern era. Comparing the rock edicts and the Hammurabi law, you see how people and laws change. Hammurabi laws were very crucial and death was brought upon to anyone who made ones simple mistake. but in this new era being the modern we can see how laws change, people are treated fairly and religion is open to anyone. No injury is desired upon anyone, and people respect each other. "Dhamma" was a really important view for many people in the modern era which meant "the way" or "truth". Ashoka really changed the vision of this modern era. Making civilization a pleasant one. Where people respected him and each other with the laws he made. to make sure that people knew about his laws he wrote them on rocks, the reason for the laws to be written on rocks were to make sure that everyone saw tim. Even if people were of low class or high class they saw these laws on rocks.

I think the development of a legal system is pretty advanced even for a civilization that has gone through two eras of "uncivilized" development (paleolithic and neolithic). Perhaps the development of the original laws was too strict, but it makes sense to the time since things like clauses and bylaws were not ably developed; extenuating circumstances were not foreseeable. Things were simpler.
